MARLENE HEAVYSHIELDS (GLOWING IN THE DARK WOMAN)

September 21, 2020

Jubei Quesnelle and Jayna Creighton-Fox

7 min | Reel Youth | Vancouver, Canada | 2019 | Boston Premiere

Jury Statement: Very well executed documentary with good cinematography and very engaging interview subject. The quality and technique are good and as a young filmmaker you mastered the basis of the art of filming plus elevated you in relationship with the medium and the story.

A quiet and heartbreaking look at an expecting mother as she chooses between reconnecting with her past or staying in the dark to move forward. The story presents remarkably interesting issue – balancing the candidness and openness of the subject that brings home and family memories together. This is the crossover between culture and social justice we've all been waiting for.
